Understand your hours
Clockwork calculates attendance from check-in and checkout records, including approved corrections. The hours shown on a timesheet can differ from the time between your first arrival and last departure because of breaks and rounding.
Break deductions
Section titled “Break deductions”Each site has a daily break duration. The default is 30 minutes. Clockwork applies the site’s break deduction when the day’s recorded duration is more than 30 minutes.
For a combined day, Clockwork uses the break setting of the site with the longest individual shift. Review the site’s settings if a deduction looks wrong.
Rounding
Section titled “Rounding”After subtracting the break, Clockwork rounds the remaining time to the site’s chosen interval. The default is 15 minutes. Rounding can move the total up or down.
For example, 8 hours 10 minutes recorded, less a 30-minute break, leaves 7 hours 40 minutes. With 15-minute rounding, the effective time is 7 hours 45 minutes.
Several shifts in one day
Section titled “Several shifts in one day”Clockwork can combine a worker’s shifts into one daily entry. It uses the first check-in and last checkout, and assigns the day to the site with the longest individual shift.
In the breakdown, gaps of at least one minute between completed shifts are labelled Driving Time. This is calculated from attendance times, including gaps between shifts at the same site. It is not a measurement of a vehicle journey. Check the breakdown if a gap was a break or other time that needs discussing with payroll.
Site hours and payroll hours
Section titled “Site hours and payroll hours”A site’s start and end times are available to staff reviewing payroll. The Clamp to Site Hours button helps them calculate a value within those times.
The hours finally entered in Approve for Payroll are a separate decision. That page always saves payable hours in 15-minute increments. See payroll approval for the review process.
